LLUIS BRU Portero del Futbol Club Barcelona (1909-1929)
LLUIS BRU Barcelona Football Club Goalkeeper (1909-1929)

My grandad Lluis Bru played for FC Barcelona between 1909 and 1929. He was the Goalkeeper and won many trofies with his team. There is no many documents of this time, so I'm trying to recopilate as many as I can to plubish them here. He retired in 1929 after an homage game offered to him.

Futbol Club Barcelona

Lluís Brú i Salelles (Ondara, 1868 - Barcelona, 1952). Mosaïcista i escenògraf modernista.

Lluís Brú i Salelles (Ondara, 1868 - Barcelona, 1952).

Born in Ondara, Valencia in 1868. His grandfather and father were both painters, and perhaps in an effort to continue the family tradition Lluís Brú developed his artistic sensibilities at early age. He moved to Barcelona while still a child.

His work as a mosaicist: The art of mosaic was the activity to which Brú dedicated the most attention. By 1900 he had already made contacts with Lluís Domènech i Montaner, and it appears that it was this architect who directed Brú into creating mosaics. In 1904, he travelled to Italy to be trained in mosaic technique.During the Art Nouveau period, Brú spent most of his time completing orders commissioned by great architects and destined for their important buildings mentioned above.

Brú’s work enjoyed such wide recognition during this period that his activities extended not only to the aforementioned luxurious buildings, but also to factories, shops, and private homes, in a process that widened the diffusion of the art of mosaic as a decorative element. In 1911, Lluís Brú won a first-place medal at the International Art Exposition in Barcelona with a fireplace that represented St. George, designed by artist Josep Triadó. At the International Exposition of the Decorative Arts held in Paris in 1925, he won the Gold Medal for his fountain covered with mosaics. The Palau de la Música Catalana was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with Hospital de Sant Pau.

Cuadros / Painting

A few months ago I felt the need to do some painting.
Went to the shop, bought all I needed and that's the result.
Where did that need to paint come from? Don't know... who cares.

Cruzando la linea / Crossing the line

Crossing the Line Ceremony occurs when a ship crosses the Equator. Every member who crosses the Equator for the first time undergoes an initiation process. It is practised in many navies around the world, including the Royal Navy. Originally the tradition was created as a test for seasoned sailors to ensure their new shipmates were capable of handling long, rough periods at sea. It is a highlight of the ship’s tour and the whole ship’s company turns out to see the Ceremony.

I crossed the Ecuator line a couple of times, by foot. My eyes became yellow like a lemon and a set of fingers grew on my shoulders.

Saltarse el eje / Crossing the line

This is a short film about the rule of line-crossing, sometimes called the 180° rule. Rules are there to be broken, aren't they?

Custodia compartida / Shared parenting

I feel very strongly about shared parenting. Thousands of children are denied their right to have a father. One day, next generations will look back and ask why we allowed that to happen. This video was produced by the Spanish government, "someone" though it needed some dialog modifications.

Bendita inocencia / Blessed innocence

"This is what belief in Santa looks like ..... young Louis is visited by a not overly convincing Father Christmas but he still sees magic...." This picture was taken by Martin Coyne, a friend, a photographer and potentially my in-law. His daughter and my son (in the picture) keep announcing that they will get married soon... bless their innocence. http://www.martincoyne.com/

Day one

How many times have you started something without knowing if you would like it, if it was going to be useful or even if you would keep it up for more than two days? Well, this is one of those occasions. Today, last day of a forgettable 2008 I start this blog, lets see what happen.
